Well. It seems the last time I wrote an update was in June. Wow-za. That was a while ago and it seems a lot has happened since then.
For one. I’m no longer in China and so my Adventures of Brenna – China Edition will now be changing to – Canada Edition :) (yay!)
I don’t even know if I should give a full re-cap of my summer at home; but, most likely I will :D
After finishing my exams and packing my life into two 50 lb bags (including my 50lb goalie bag) I loaded my life into the back of a Chinese cab at 5am and said good-bye to the empty streets of Kunming. More than a full day later, after a flight with no TV screens and less than appetizing food, I arrived home to Vancouver (!!!) and was greeted at the airport by Brian and Krista. So epically happy.
They let me shower, where I drank tap water, and we spent an epic day together, minus the part where I begged for an hour nap which totally wrecked me…I still swear Krista drugged me..I even got in a game of hockey the next afternoon, and got to meet the new YWAM SOS team and reunite with a few from the summer when I was a part of their awesomeness. Then there were good-byes. I hate goodbyes.
Me and Krista got to hang out for a few more days and I got the chance to reunite with a friend from my first year in Calgary, AliSON, as always, a swell day was had. Before long my week in Vancouver was up..and I had to repack my bags again, with the knowledge that Air Canada is a lot less forgiving on weight restrictions than every other airline. Truth be told I was 3 pounds over and they wanted to charge me $75..ridiculous. Hours later I landed back in the land of gravel pit mountains and was reunited with my family. We may or may not have shed a few tears.
And from then on I spent my last work-free summer relaxing in Melfort, SK with the family. Making a trip up North to Flin Flon Manitoba for a quasi-family reunion. Spending copious amounts of time slapping my sister’s thigh and signing the Lion King song at the top of my lungs…until I got to go pick up Brian from the airport. I tried to hide my quirks for probably 5 minutes, but then realized he already knows how awesome I am..and probably wouldn’t mind. I hope. If not. he was stuck with me and my family for 2 weeks. Until I dropped him off at Bridle-quest for his first year of school. And then there was another good-bye. I hate good-byes. The next week was less than stellar. The kids went back to school, the parents went back to work, Brian was in Caronport…and I was still in Melfort. So I painted. and painted. and baked. and baked. and then I packed…and prepared for yet another goodbye.
Three days ago, after attending a beautiful wedding, I packed my life in the back of Nikki’s Honda Fit (this time I got to bring more of my life…!) and we set off for the 8 hour drive to Calgary; locking keys in the car once, and embarrassing myself with my rusty stick-shift driving skills…but eventually we made it safe and sound to my new home…for the next four months.
My last semester at the U of C starts monday. Four classes left until I get that elusive piece of paper with my name in fancy writing that says I accomplished something over the past…years. Exciting. So far I’ve been fortune to reconnect with some good friends, and move in with an old friend and her roommate, who seems great. I think it’s going to be a good last semester…and then I’ll have to say goodbye again. The good thing about goodbyes are, you get to say hello’s not too soon afterwards.
